Total Annual Roughage requirement (kg) for 100 cows dairy farm :

60 milking cow=525600
40 dry cow=262800
60 calf =65700
30 heifer =131400
16 bull =175200
Total =1160700 kg

Land requirement for fodder(roughage)  cultivation :
Total land : 40 acre

• For perennial fodder(Napier,para,German) = 60% land

  =40×60/100
  =24 acre

• For seasonal fodder(Maize, cowpea, jower) =40% land

  =40×40/100
  =16 acre

1. Yield for perennial fodder:

a.Napier grass yield :
 9 acre land is use for Napier grass production.
Annual production of Napier is 60000 kg per acre
So, total yield  is = (60000×9)
=540000 kg

b.Para grass yield :
7 acre land is use for para grass production.
Annual production of para is 45000 kg per acre
So, total yield  is = (45000×7)
=315000 kg

c.German grass yield :
8 acre land is use for German grass production.
Annual production of German is 45000 kg per acre
So, total yield  is = (45000×8)
=360000 kg


2. Yield of seasonal fodder :

a. Maize:
8 acre land is use for Maize production. It is cultivated 2 times in a year.
Annual production of Maize is (2×12000) kg per acre
So, total yield  is = (2×12000×8)
=192000 kg

b. Cowpea :
4 acre land is use for cowpea production.
Annual production of cowpea is 10000 kg per acre
So, total yield  is = (10000×4)
=40000 kg

c. Jower :
4 acre land is use for jower production.
Annual production of jower is 25000 kg per acre
So, total yield  is = (25000×4)
=100000 kg

Total annual fodder yield :
Fodder with Annual yield(kg)

1. Napier =540000
2. Para =315000
3. German= 360000
4. Maize =192000
5. Cowpea= 40000
6. Jower =100000.

Total yield = 1547000 kg

Total Required green grass for 206 cow is 1160700 kg per year.
Excess green grass production (1547000 – 1160700)
=386300 kg
These excess green grass can be preserved as silage and haylage for future use or can be sold.
